The aft kingpost and munition transfer stations of the Nitro Class ammunition ship is one of the areas involved in the dockside loading of munition pallets, slings and individual bomb loads either directly in to the munition holds or on to the decks of the AEs by use of winch operated booms. When underway, these munition transfer areas are manned by both gunners mates and deck hands involved with hooking up and lifting munitions that will be transferred to the ships coming along side for an UNREP.
